Portfolio Tags allow you to further organize and describe your projects using specific keywords. Unlike categories, which are used for broader grouping, tags help define finer details such as technologies used, design styles, tools, or project attributes.

Tags improve filtering, enhance searchability, and help visitors quickly discover related projects.

1. Adding a New Tag (From Tags Page)

You can create and manage tags directly from the Tags management screen.

 

Step 1: Navigate to Tags

  • Go to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • From the left-hand menu, select:
    Portfolio → Tags.

Step 2: Fill in Tag Details

  • Name: Enter the tag title (e.g., React, 3D Render, Minimal Design).
  • Slug: A URL-friendly version of the name (e.g., react, 3d-render). Leave blank to auto-generate.
  • Description (Optional): Add a short explanation. This may appear on tag archive pages depending on your theme.

2. Adding Tags from the Portfolio Edit Screen

You can quickly create and assign tags while creating or editing a portfolio item—without leaving the editor.

 

Assign an Existing Tag

  • Go to Portfolio → Add New (or edit an existing project).
  • Locate the Portfolio Tags meta box in the sidebar.
  • Type the tag name in the input field and select it from the suggestions.

Add a New Tag Directly

  • Inside the Portfolio Tags meta box, type the new tag name.
  • Press Enter or click Add.

The tag will be created instantly and automatically assigned to the current project.

3. Editing an Existing Tag

You can quickly create and assign tags while creating or editing a portfolio item—without leaving the editor.

 

Steps to Edit

  • Navigate to Portfolio → Tags.
  • Find the tag you want to modify in the list.
  • Hover over the tag name and select:
    • Edit: Opens the full edit screen.
    • Quick Edit: Allows inline editing.
  • Update the Name, Slug, or Description as required.
  • Click Update to save changes.

4. Assigning Tags to Portfolio Items

  • While editing a project, add one or more tags in the Portfolio Tags meta box.
  • Tags can be assigned when first creating the project or later by editing it.
  • Multiple tags can be added to a single project.

Example: A project can include tags such as React, Minimal Design, and E-commerce simultaneously.

5. Frontend Display & Filtering

Portfolio tags enhance the frontend browsing experience.

  • Tags are often displayed alongside portfolio items as clickable keywords.
  • Clicking a tag will display all projects associated with that tag.
  • Some portfolio layouts include dynamic filters based on tags.
  • Tag archive pages can show all projects sharing the same attribute.

Example Use Case: Visitors can filter projects by technologies like React or WordPress, or by style such as Minimal or Corporate.
